Welcome To The Masquerade Website

Website Plan

This is my plan for my website. It follows conventions because it has my poster as the main image. As with other conventions, my title is the biggest text on the page. The tag line is also there in a bigger size than most of the text.
I don't have the date of my films release on there but that is because it's in the trailer. I also have the links and billing box which follows conventions.
The background will be the same style/feel that my poster is, with the image having the same grunge background which fades into a black background.

Website Analysis 2

This is the website for remember me. Genre wise it's similar to mine as one of the main theme's is romance. This website follows conventions as it has the title as the biggest text on the page. As it's in red it stands out from the rest of the background which is in black and white. The release date for the trailer is also in a bigger text than most of the text on the page but smaller than the title. The background image is the same image as is used for the poster for the film, but the trailer overlays it and takes up the majority of the page.
Following conventions the social networking links are on the page but instead of being on the bottom of the page as is conventions, they are on the right side of the page.
Following conventions it has links to the story and gallery as fans or audiences would want to know about that if they are going to see the film.
The stars names are also listed on this poster which isn't done on the kick-ass website. This is a convention that is often done if your film features well known names. As the main star in this is robert pattinson then his name will be on there as he's a reason to watch the film. As my film has unknowns in it, i do not add the actors' names on mine, only in the billing box.

Website Analysis

This is the website for Kick-Ass. The genre is different from mine though love does play a role in this film as too their being some kind of conflict. Despite the genre being different though, the target audience is similar. Both mine and their film are aimed at predominantly teenagers aged 15+ but also accessible and aimed at adults.

In terms of the film poster and it's conventions, The film poster has the name of the film as the main thing you see. It then has the main characters head's in the gap between the words kick and ass, changing from one to the others after a given time. The date is also in a big font so you know when it's coming out with the social networking buttons near the bottom of the page as are conventions of a movie website.

The trailer plays automatically, with the option for people to close it and actually enter the site. As well as following those conventions, it has a place when you can register for the mailing list at the bottom of the site.

In terms of being like the poster, it is very similar as it has the same grunge feeling. The characters heads are surrounded by spray paint as on similar posters they have.

Teaser Trailer: Welcome To The Masquerade

Info about my trailer, well there's not much to say. It was difficult to make at times but nevertheless i managed to get through it. Don't know how to introduce my trailer except something i quite enjoy.

Website Design

I based my website design and followed conventions about how to design it (Will be updated onto the blog later).

The design was primarily based on Nightmare on Elm streets website, which has the same image of as the poster on the left side of the page with the various buttons and trailers on the right. I also added on social networking buttons

Welcome To The Masquerade Movie Poster

Movie Poster

The billing box was made in reference to other film movie posters like the dark knight and shutter island. It uses a steel tongs font while the rest of my poster uses the font "Northwood High". The background is grungy with the polaroid's also having a grungy/aged feel to them. They are arranged in a collage with the one of aisling in the mask on the top of the pile. As it's roughly in the centre and in colour it will get

New Photoshoot Plan

Movie Poster Update

My initial idea for my movie poster was to use a similar idea to the face off movie poster, where half the poster was one persons face and other half was another persons face. This proved difficult to do so i needed a change in plan for my movie poster. I searched for other movie posters etc... for more inspiration. While looking i found a couple of interesting idea's based around polaroids. This appealed to me as i could show multiple images on one poster to convey different parts of my movie. I then made a new poster plan for my polaroid inspired movie poster.

Unlike these posters having hands coming out and holding other polaroids, i chose not to do this as it doesn't apply to my film that well. The pictures i'm using are to suggest pictures used would take in the masquerade of just in general.

Animatic

(Warning: May contain terrible drawings)

Basically this is my Animatic (of sorts). My scanner isn't working so i had to take photo's of the drawings i wanted to use.
As i dislike my drawing's and because of time constraints etc... I used images from the internet for the scene's in my montage. (all drawings are done by me but some have been drawn before)

Production Update (17/02/10)

In terms of filming and shooting, i managed to do some more filming on the 7th of february so i have got all my scene's for my montage at the end of my trailer shot. I still want to film some more people wearing masks for the start of my teaser trailer as that would mean i could use more and that i have a big selection to chose from, I am seeing people on the 21st of this month so i will be filming them there as well as starting to take shots for my poster. My poster shots will more than likely continue into the next couple of weeks. They should be finished by mid march.

As for other production work, i have been having difficulties with my scanner for my animatic. I have decided to re-draw my storyboard but my scanner is currently not working so instead i will take pictures of my drawings. Hopefully this will be done within the hour. Saving the animatic and uploading it to a site will take the longest time but i'd imagine it shouldn't take too long.

Movie Poster Analysis (In Depth)

In some of my other posts i have talked briefly about other posters and analysing them. Here is a more in depth analysis of 3 posters. 1 of the posters is from a similar genre to mine (Baz Luhrmans Romeo + Juliet) whereas the others are have a similar style to what i would like to do.

This poster uses 6 shots from the film all of which involve one of the lead characters. The varied shots establish what type of genre this film is as it shows scene's of the two making out as well as showing romeo with a gun. The bullet going along the bottom also does that.

Over 4 of the pictures it has text which also help sum up the tone of the film.
The billing box is in the trail left behind by the bullet. The title of the film stands out as it is the biggest text used on the poster. The "+" in the middle resembles a cross so that also suggests that their is a religious element to the film (which there is).

For the star trek poster they also use more than one photo. As star trek is a recognized brand and it's logo is recognizable, they didn't need to use much text on their posters (they had a series of posters for the film). As well as having all 4 of these photo's combining to make one photo, they also had each one on it's own. (for example one using just the yellow one). The colours match the colour they wear in the film. Each shot is a close up of one of the lead actors. The colour effect was added in post production, and when you look at the other posters for this movie you can see that they used the same photo's for their black and white series. This has given me the idea to do similar, use the same picture for multiple posters with different effects. Also to have one poster where they are all joined together but also have a poster where they are separate.
(In another one of my posts i have a tutorial of me re-creating this poster)

This poster just uses 2 close ups of the main actors then uses photoshop to start to merge them together. The title overlays the bottom of the picture with the billing box underneath that. This poster has the actors names in a slightly bigger text than the name of the film as audiences will recognize the actors (from their last names alone) and go to see the film because they're in it. The title of the film is the second biggest text on the page so it will be noticed second, The release date (simply left as summer) is bigger than the text in the billing box so we will notice that too.

Photoshoot Plan (Welcome to the masuqerade movie poster)

Plan for Welcome To The Masquerade Posters

Agency Name: Maxtremists Entertainment Production

Model(s): David Johnson, Aisling Fahey, Tyrone Lewis, Derek Bampoh, Nancy Harper, Taiyo Leyenda, Lizzie Siu (and others)

Camera height/angle/distance: Close Up, Eye Level

Location: Various. (infront of a plain colour background each time)

Lighting: Natural Lighting

Mise-en-scene (incl. props, costume): Masquerade masks – something hidden or secret.

Attempted connotation: Masks – Something surreal

Planned denotation:

Contingency (in case of model absence/weather): Other actors/people for shots.

Alternate angle: Mid Shot, Eye Level

Thinking points: Rule of thirds, White background shot

Comments: I will take two shots of each of my models, one of them wearing a mask and another of them not wearing a mask. I will then use photoshop etc... to merge half of the image with them wearing a mask with half of them not wearing a mask, this split will be directly down the middle. (inspiration: Face Off).

In terms of models, i will aim to use my main actors from my film but as it’s just for the masquerade i can take pics of any model i can use. This will show that it’s a masquerade full of lots of varied people.

Poster Research (Star Trek)

http://www.planetphotoshop.com/star-trek-poster-effect.html

This poster was based on the star trek poster. Despite being a different genre to my trailer i am going to use a similar style/design

Poster Research (The Dark Knight)

For some of my poster research, i looked for tutorials on how to make some of the other posters i like or enjoy, one of the tutorials i found was for a Batman : The Dark Knight tutorial.

http://www.tutorialsphere.com/homemade/design/recreating-the-dark-knight-poster/

This is the tutorial i was working from.

Here are the pictures i used for my poster and underneath is the finished product.

Teaser Trailers... Further Analysis

Analysis of these 3 trailers will be posted later when i can upload my powerpoint presentations onto slideshare

Contacts Organisation/Time Management

The lead roles of my film/trailer are being played by David Johnson and Aisling Fahey. I have the two of them on Facebook and am in regular contact with them so organizing shooting and other things have been simple. I also have their phone numbers so staying in contact with them hasn't been a problem. I also see Aisling every other wednesday at The Barbican for a poetry course so i have used the time there to get neccessary shots. I have organised times to meet up with David using facebook and Texting to try and sort out the shots i've needed him for.

In terms of my other actors, i also have them on Facebook and i also have their numbers so i have sent texts to them asking when they are free and fitting that into when i can film them for scene's for my trailer.

My masquerade mask scene's at the start of my trailer haven't used planned people as such. I needed to film at least 25 different people wearing masquerade masks so, i carry the masks with me in a bag so i'm able to just ask friends etc... to wear a mask and be part of the montage. I ask them during theirs and my free time which means i have been able to fit it into my timetable.

Welcome To The Masquerade - Teaser Plan

•My teaser will start with a Mid-Shot of the main character putting on his masquerade mask (from behind) then turning to face the camera.

•The video will then zoom out to reveal a video wall of various people wearing masquerade malls (similar to the Brady Bunch opening)

•The video zoom out and video wall will last for 20 seconds, then followed by 10 seconds of shots of various people getting ready for the masquerade, fading out after each shot of them. Overlapping these will be text asking, “What would you do, if one dance, could change your whole life?”

•There will then be 20-25 seconds of a montage of various scene’s from the film (all the previous scene’s are purely for the trailer).

•The last 5-10 seconds will be the title reveal and the billing box

Media Coursework, Update.

As of 01/02/10 i have finished my primary filming for my teaser trailer. I have shot all the shots needed for my teaser trailer and have been logging them on final cut pro as well as getting a basic timeline for them done.

I have seen that some shots may need to be re-shot so i will be keeping my camera until after half term to try and get them done but this is due to actors availability etc...

As for filming and my work up until now i have faced some chanllenges and obstacles. My original teaser plan had to change as i was unable to get the roundhouse hub to film my masqeurade scene. My back up plan also didn't work as i was planning on using the crypt for the masquerade scene instead, my church was using the crypt on weekends which meant i was unable to use it.

This meant i've had to change my teaser plan accordingly without changing my idea. I will post an updated teaser plan after this.

In terms of actors, it would have been difficult arranging for all of them to meet up as it would of required a lot of them and the main actors had re-takes etc... to revise for and do so i have had to function that into my revised teaser plan. This has meant rather than people coming to see me when it suited me, i chose to go see them in their free time as it suited them better and i planned enough time in my day to go and see my actors.

Filming itself has been simple as in my new teaser plan, the first 20 seconds are shots of people wearing masquerade masks and just, essentially, looking at the camera so filming that has proved simple and with editing will be good as i can use after effects to make a video wall of all the people wearing masquerade masks. The other shots have also been simple and will be described in more depth in my teaser plan.

The sound had been an issue but i have found a few free music sites which provide good music which i can use and i plan to use 3 different tracks for my final trailer.

I have also started research on posters and been practing editing posters.

There have been some problems with me making my animatic and also my uploading powerpoints onto slideshare so i can post them onto here but hopefully those issues will be resolved soon
